The task we were set by our client was to create a residential redevelopment of nine apartments where previously there had been a carpet warehouse. Our successful planning application, which included change of use, was based on a suburban high density housing model.

 

Introducing basements into the layout gave us flexibility to mix duplex and lateral apartments over four floors. The duplex apartments use the basement for bedrooms and have living accommodation on the level above. We also incorporated private gardens and balconies so that all apartments have an outdoor space.

 

The design is cutting edge for the area and its stunning copper cladding puts it at the very forefront of contemporary design. It sits brilliantly within the local street scene and has been planted extensively at the front and rear to complement the neighbourhood’s existing green outlook. The local authority stated that the architects and developers should be commended for the quality of the design.
